Mid-South Horn Workshop

Title: Conditioning for the Horn: Lessons Learned from freelancing and free weights

Synopsis:

Success in music and fitness share striking parallels: consistency, recovery, and preparation are key to long-term growth. In this session, I will explore practical, fitness-based strategies to prepare, nourish, and recover the body for the physical demands of horn playing. We will focus on warming up the body to promote efficiency, longevity, and injury prevention, recovery techniques to support long-term performance quality, and the role of nutrition in sustaining energy, focus, and overall well-being. Drawing on my training as a NASM-certified personal trainer, I will demonstrate how intentional physical preparation, mind-muscle connection, proper fueling, and recovery can improve endurance and enhance overall playing. Attendees will leave with practical tools and exercises to integrate into their routines, fostering physical resilience and supporting a healthier, more sustainable approach to horn playing. Whether you’re a student, teacher, or performer, this presentation offers a fresh, health-focused perspective on mastering your instrument.
